Helldivers celebrating Liberty Day 2016! – Competitions, Livestream, Reddit AMA
Citizens of Super Earth,
Thanks to your bravery in the Galactic Wars we are once again able to wish you a magnificent Liberty Day!
In celebration of this historical anniversary we are hosting some competitions and other events, as well as giving away free equipment to all Helldivers. Read on for full details.
New Liberty Day equipment
To celebrate Liberty Day all players will receive the new rifle M2016 ‘Constitution’ and the Liberty cape.
The M2016 ‘CONSTITUTION’ is a reproduction of the old M1903 service rifle used in ancient times. It is fairly ineffective in combat but is used within the Super Earth Armed Forces as a ceremonial rifle. Every citizen is issued one once they turn 16 to encourage service.
While not recommended to bring into the field, it is certainly possible to use for the very skilled or the very brave.
The LIBERTY CAPE is given to every Helldiver so they will be able to celebrate the big day in style, while also showing their dedication to protecting the precious Liberty we enjoy today.
In addition to the new Liberty Day gear there are two more capes which have been added to the game – the Community Cape and the Developer Cape.
The COMMUNITY CAPE is given as a reward to outstanding individuals who have participated in – or helped out – the Helldivers community in various ways. Whether that be assistance in solving bugs, guiding new recruits, winning competitions or actively participating and engaging in forum discussions, these individuals can be distinguished from other recruits.
The DEVELOPER CAPE allows you to recognize members of the developer or publisher teams amidst the chaos of battle. (Shooting or badgering developers will not earn you any rewards, rather the opposite. We just wish to enjoy spreading democracy side by side!)
Livestream and Reddit AMA
Tonight between 18:00 and 20:00 CEST we will be playing Helldivers with the community so come and join in! The event will be livestreamed on Arrowhead’s Twitch channel and all information about how to participate is soon available there.
We would love for anyone joining to be on voice chat so we can say hi to you, and you can ask us questions. Someone will also be monitoring the Twitch chat most of the time.
Helldivers Game Designer and Producer, Patrik, will also be taking part in a Reddit AMA over in the Helldivers subreddit. Make sure to stop by and say hi. The AMA thread will be stickied at the top of the page.
To celebrate further we’re giving all Helldivers the chance to win their very own Community cape. Make sure to check the rules carefully so your entry counts. You can win a cape in one of the two ways below.
There will be 3 winners for each category who are awarded with the new Community cape and a few Helldivers goodies. You may participate in both but will not be selected as the winner in more than one.
Deadline for your entry is Monday Oct 31st, 09:00 CEST.

UPDATE: COMPETITION WINNERS!
Thank you to everyone who participated! We were blown away by all the entries and it was pretty hard to judge, but in the end there had to be some winners.
The three winners of the cape designs, in no particular order, are: The Jonasan with the cape most likely to be seen in-game, Kelvin for the stylish appearance and Timbrewolf’s very fun cape.
The winners of the short story are, in no particular order, are:
Idrtmsr – for badass action
“Her squad donned their gear and entered the Hellpods. The sound of launch countdown followed by the g-forces pushing her into her chair was all familiar by now, but as soon as Captain Takeko exited the Hellpod she could tell everything hadn’t gone according to plan…”
Bodies littered the shuttle wreckage. One soldier stood amongst the carnage.
“Objectives lost ma’am. Extract in-bound.” He slowly smiled. “I’m staying.”
The word “REASON” was smeared with orange hemolymph across his weapon.
“Standard issue RL-112 soldier? You a Section 8?” she asked.
“No ma’am. Bugs don’t respect liberty. I make them listen to ‘REASON’.”
Skittering beyond the wall of smoke.
Smiling herself, she dropped a beacon and ordered her squad to extract.
“Attractor beacon” she said.
Both grinning now.
Time for some fun.
Glitch32 – for pure dread
“Her squad donned their gear and entered the Hellpods. The sound of launch countdown followed by the g-forces pushing her into her chair was all familiar by now, but as soon as Captain Kitsune exited the Hellpod she could tell everything hadn’t gone according to plan…”
Hearing the familiar scurries of a bug patrol, her training and experience immediately took over as she quickly pulled herself from her pod, pointed her Punisher, and fired two shots. She prevented the patrol from alerting any other bugs but this did little to ease her anxiety. She checked her HUD as the rest of her team crawled out of their pods. Landing next to a patrol was common. Landing next to a bug patrol on a Cyborg planet was unheard of. Their mission had changed. Super Earth had to be warned. The war fronts were spilling over into each other.
Vahmose – for humor
“Her squad donned their gear and entered the Hellpods. The sound of launch countdown followed by the g-forces pushing her into her chair was all familiar by now, but as soon as Captain Fansipaunce exited the Hellpod she could tell everything hadn’t gone according to plan…”
“Grenade! Get down Fanny!” She hit the deck just in time to avoid a wave of shrapnel that littered the air over her Hellpod’s impact zone. As she stood, Fansipaunce yanked free a metal shard that had sliced into the rock by her head. She handed it to Johnson with a half-hearted scowl, “That’s Captain to you, recruit.” He nodded apologetically, fumbling with the piece. Her scowl deepened, “Where are the others?” Johnson pointed toward a set of tire tracks leading up to the nearby cliff’s edge, “I told them bringing the bike was a bad idea.”
